11/6/2023 0 Comments Parking in front of fire hydrant![]() You can probably find a "NO Parking fire hydrant" sign on ebay. ![]() Problem solved! NOBODY parks in the cul-de-sac anymore This was years ago and the offending neighbor who always had guests who parked in the cul-de-sac has long since moved away but my sign is still there and I suspect that everyone probably thinks the county put it up. I made sure to install them at the appropriate height so they look official. Between a safety zone or 30 feet from the ends of. within 30 feet of a flashing beacon, stop sign, or any traffic-control signal located at the side of a roadway. I went over there in the middle of the night with my Dewalt cordless drill and installed them on a light pole overlooking the cul-de-sac. within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection. I bought a reflective street sign off ebay that says "NO Parking Anytime" and another one that says "vehicles will be towed at owner's expense". Then the bus and these trucks would back into my driveway to turn around but usually got off the driveway leaving huge ruts in my yard. I had a similar problem with neighbor's guests parking in the small cul-de-sac on my street so the school bus, Fed Ex, UPS, etc. Thanks y’all! I promise im not a karen, just a person concerned about safety. I’m sure the small police force has better things to worry about. I also don’t want to constant bother the non emergency line and be a “Karen”. I’ll be damned if my house burns down because they won’t park in their own driveway. I feel so petty asking this but I had a lot of anxiety of the Fourth of July with people setting off fireworks everywhere and the fire hydrant being blocked. What I can’t determine is this: would it be unlawful of me to place a generic orange cone(that I purchase) at the curb in front of it? Not to block traffic from flowing, but to alert someone that they can’t park there. I’ve also searched the VA code and it’s not legal to park within 15 feet. No person shall stop, place, or park a vehicle at any place where official signs, curbs, or pavement markings prohibit parking, or within 15 feet of a fire. It’s my understanding that it’s basically universal to not block a fire hydrant. I’ve asked the town to place a sign or paint the curb, they’ve made a big deal of it and haven’t yet. There’s someone on my street that habitually allows their guests to park in front of, and block, the nearby fire hydrant. I was wondering if anyone had any insight to this.
